JUDGING CRITERIA

COMPETITION SCORING

Business Plan
Business plans will be evaluated based on the judging criteria listed above. Only qualifying teams will advance to the elevator pitch and venture expo competition.

Elevator Pitch
Elevator pitches will be evaluated based on the description/problem, feasibility of the solution, target market, and pitch delivery (see above for elevator pitch criteria). Qualifying teams will be divided into multiple competition rooms for the elevator pitches. Teams will be seeded and grouped into rooms based on their business plan evaluation scores. Each judge in the room will independently provide scores for each elevator pitch, and the average of all individual judge scores will represent the team’s final score.

Venture Expo
Teams at the venture expo will be evaluated based on the value proposition, market feasibility, financial feasibility, ability to execute, launch, and potential impact (see above for venture expo criteria). Judges will visit all of the teams from their specific elevator pitch room. Thus, each team will be evaluated by the same set of judges for both the elevator pitch and venture expo. Judges will independently provide scores for each venture expo interaction, and the average of all individual judge scores will represent the team’s final score.

Announcement of the 16 Semifinalists
Upon completion of the elevator pitches and venture expo, the final scores will be tallied for each event.

The elevator pitch score will count for 1/3 of the final result.

The venture expo score will count for 2/3 of the final result.

The top two final result scores from each of the competition rooms will advance as the semifinalists. The remaining two semifinalist spots will be determined by the judges based on merit.

Semifinalist Presentation
Semifinalist presentations will be evaluated based on the value proposition, market feasibility, financial feasibility, ability to execute, launch, and potential impact (see above for semifinalist presentation criteria). Sixteen semifinalist teams will be evenly divided into four competition rooms. Upon conclusion of the four presentations in each room, judges will discuss and reach agreement on one semifinalist team that will advance to the finalist presentation.

Finalist Presentation
Finalist presentations will be evaluated based on the same criteria as the semifinalist presentations (see above for finalist presentation criteria). Upon conclusion of the four presentations, judges will discuss and reach agreement on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place teams.
